Cost and insurance

How much does a windshield replacement cost in Phoenix without insurance?

Cash prices depend on three things: the vehicle (a base sedan windshield costs far less than a luxury SUV or truck windshield), the glass type (OEM or aftermarket OEE), and whether the vehicle needs ADAS camera recalibration. You get an itemized quote before any work starts, and the price you approve is the price you pay. See our cost and cash back page for details.

Why is windshield replacement often $0 in Arizona?

Arizona is one of a handful of states where comprehensive auto policies typically waive the deductible for windshield replacement. If your policy includes full glass coverage, the insurer pays for parts, labor, and calibration, and you pay nothing out of pocket. We verify your policy and bill the carrier directly. Full details are on our Arizona windshield insurance page.

Do I have to use the glass shop my insurance company recommends?

No. Arizona law lets you choose any licensed auto glass shop; the insurer’s phone script may steer you to a network provider, but you can name High-Tech Auto Glass and the claim is processed the same way. We handle the paperwork with all major carriers.

Does a glass claim count against me?

Comprehensive glass claims are treated as no-fault. In most cases they do not raise your premium or affect your driving record, unlike a collision claim. Insurer practices vary, so we recommend a quick call to your agent if you are unsure, and we are happy to check with you.

What is the cash back offer?

When your insurance covers the replacement, we pass part of our savings back to you as cash back on qualifying insurance-paid replacements. The amount depends on the vehicle and glass type and is confirmed on your quote before the appointment. It is a legal, documented rebate, not a deductible waiver.

Do you offer discounts if I pay cash?

Yes. Ask for the cash price when you request a quote. We also offer free rock chip repair evaluations, and chip repairs are far cheaper than a replacement when the damage is caught early.

Process and timing

How long does the whole appointment take?

Plan on about two hours door to door: 45 to 60 minutes for removal and installation, at least one hour of safe-drive-away time while the urethane adhesive cures, and 30 to 60 minutes more if your vehicle needs a static ADAS calibration. We tell you the exact safe-drive-away time for the adhesive we used on your car.

Can I drive right after the windshield is replaced?

Not immediately. The adhesive needs its minimum safe-drive-away time (usually 60 minutes in Phoenix temperatures) to hold the glass in a collision and let the passenger airbag deploy correctly. Your technician will give you the exact time before leaving.

What should I do in the first 24 hours after a replacement?

Leave the retention tape on for 24 hours, crack a window slightly to avoid pressure spikes when closing doors, do not run the car through a car wash for 48 hours, and avoid slamming doors. Light rain and normal driving are fine after the safe-drive-away time.

Do you replace windshields on weekends?

Yes. We schedule mobile and in-shop appointments seven days a week, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and same-day slots are usually available when you call before early afternoon.

Do I need to be present during a mobile appointment?

Only at the start and end. Hand the keys to the technician, and we will call or text when the job is finished and the safe-drive-away time has passed. Many customers book at their workplace and never leave their desk.

ADAS calibration

Which cars need ADAS calibration after a windshield replacement?

Any vehicle with a camera mounted behind the windshield: lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, or traffic sign recognition. That covers most vehicles built after 2018 and many from 2012 onward, including Toyota Safety Sense, Honda Sensing, Subaru EyeSight, Ford Co-Pilot360, and Tesla Autopilot.

What happens if I skip calibration?

The camera may be off by a fraction of a degree, which at highway speed translates to several feet of error in where the system thinks the lane or the car ahead is. Emergency braking can trigger late or not at all, and some manufacturers void safety-system warranties. We calibrate every ADAS-equipped vehicle we work on and give you a printed calibration report.

Is calibration included in the insurance claim?

Yes. When the replacement is covered, the required calibration is part of the same claim and is billed to the insurer, not to you. Learn more on our ADAS calibration page.

Can you calibrate my car at my home?

Dynamic calibrations (a road drive at set speeds) can be completed after a mobile installation. Static calibrations need a level floor, controlled lighting, and target boards, so those are done in our shop. We tell you which type your vehicle needs when you book.

Glass, quality and warranty

What is the difference between OEM, OEE and aftermarket glass?

OEM glass is made by the manufacturer that supplied your car’s factory windshield and carries the automaker’s logo. OEE (original equipment equivalent) glass is made to the same specification, often by the same factory, without the logo. Aftermarket glass meets federal safety standards but may differ slightly in tint, thickness, or camera bracket tolerances. We recommend OEM or OEE for ADAS-equipped vehicles.

Will a new windshield fit my rain sensor, heads-up display, or heated wipers?

Yes, as long as the glass is matched to your VIN. We order by VIN so that sensor pads, HUD wedge layers, acoustic laminates, and heating grids match the original. Tell us about any dashboard warnings or features when you book so nothing is missed.

What does the lifetime warranty cover?

Our workmanship warranty covers air leaks, water leaks, wind noise, and adhesive-related defects for as long as you own the vehicle. Manufacturer defects in the glass are covered under the glass maker’s terms. The warranty does not cover new rock chips or cracks from road debris after installation.

Is your team certified?

Our installers are AGSC-certified and trained on the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard, current urethane systems, and ADAS calibration equipment. Certification numbers are available on request.

Repair versus replacement

Can a chip be repaired instead of replacing the windshield?

Usually, if the chip is smaller than a credit card, not in the driver’s primary line of sight, and not at the edge of the glass. A repair takes about 30 minutes, restores most of the strength, and stops the crack from spreading. Many insurers cover chip repair at no cost.

Why do small chips turn into long cracks so fast in Phoenix?

Heat. A windshield sitting in 110 degree sun expands, and the blast of cold air from the A/C contracts the inside surface. That temperature difference stresses the chip until it runs. Park in shade when you can, avoid pointing the A/C directly at the glass, and get chips filled within a few days.

Is it legal to drive with a cracked windshield in Arizona?

Arizona law prohibits driving with damage that obstructs the driver’s view, and officers can cite you for cracks in the wiper sweep area. Beyond the ticket, a cracked windshield loses up to 60 percent of its structural strength and can fail in a rollover. Read our guide to Arizona windshield laws.
