Snowbird season in the East Valley runs from October to April, and a cracked RV windshield is the one repair you do not want to put off until the drive home. High-Tech Auto Glass replaces motorhome, fifth-wheel and travel-trailer glass on site at RV resorts and parks in Mesa, Apache Junction and Casa Grande. Call (480) 702-2888 or request a quote with your coach’s year, make and model.
Why do RV windshields crack so often in Arizona?
Three things work against RV glass here. First, size: a Class A windshield can be a single sheet several times the area of a car windshield, so it flexes more over every expansion joint on US 60 and the Loop 202. Second, the desert temperature swing. A coach parked in the sun at an RV resort can see the glass surface climb well past the air temperature by afternoon, then drop sharply after dark. Each cycle works on any chip that is already there. Third, the roads you use to get here. Gravel shoulders on US 60 toward Superior, the Beeline Highway (SR 87) and I-10 between Casa Grande and Phoenix throw stones at windshield height from trucks ahead of you. A chip picked up on the way down in October often turns into a crack by January.
Can a chip in an RV windshield be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, yes, if you act early. Resin repair works on small chips that have not spread and are not in the driver’s direct line of sight. The rules of thumb are the same as for a car: see our guide to when a chip is still repairable. On an RV, the hard part is reaching the damage safely and keeping dust out of the chip while the resin cures, which is why we prefer to do it at your site in the morning before the glass heats up. A chip that has already run into a crack across a large motorhome windshield cannot be repaired. At that point the glass has to come out.
What is different about replacing a motorhome windshield?
Most Class A coaches use either one large curved windshield or a two-piece windshield split at the center pillar. Many Class C and Class B motorhomes are built on a truck or van chassis (Ford, Chevrolet, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ram ProMaster) and use that chassis’s windshield, which is easier to source. Before we quote, we ask for:
- The chassis or coach manufacturer, model and model year.
- Whether the windshield is one piece or two pieces, and which side is damaged.
- Whether the coach has lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning or adaptive cruise control. Those systems usually rely on a camera mounted behind the windshield, and after replacement the camera needs recalibration. We explain the process on our ADAS calibration page.
Large RV glass is not always on a shelf in Phoenix. If your windshield has to be ordered, tell us as early as you can so it arrives before you plan to leave.
Does my insurance pay for an RV windshield in Arizona?
It depends on where your policy was written and what you selected. Arizona’s full-glass rule, A.R.S. § 20-264, requires insurers writing private passenger auto insurance with comprehensive coverage to offer, at the policyholder’s option, repair or replacement of all damaged glass without regard to any deductible (azleg.gov, read October 2026). Many RV policies are written as specialty or recreational-vehicle policies rather than private passenger auto, so check your declarations page for a glass or comprehensive deductible rather than assuming the Arizona rule applies.
Out-of-state policies follow the law of the state that issued them. A few home states that send a lot of winter visitors to the East Valley have their own glass rules:
- Florida: under Florida Statute 627.7288, the policy deductible does not apply to windshield damage covered under comprehensive coverage (leg.state.fl.us, October 2026).
- Minnesota: Minnesota Statute 65B.134 requires comprehensive policies to offer, at the insured’s option, full coverage for repair or replacement of damaged safety glass without any deductible (revisor.mn.gov, October 2026).
- South Carolina: S.C. Code § 38-77-280(B) says a physical-damage deductible does not apply to automobile safety glass (scstatehouse.gov, October 2026).
If you are insured in a state without such a rule, or through a Canadian provincial insurer, you will usually pay your comprehensive deductible and the insurer covers the rest. We bill most US insurers directly. Read more in our guide to windshield insurance in Arizona.
Where do you come to in Mesa, Apache Junction and Casa Grande?
We come to your parked coach. That includes the RV resorts along US 60 and Main Street in east Mesa, the parks between Apache Junction and Gold Canyon, and the resorts around Casa Grande off I-10 and I-8. We also work at private driveways and storage lots. Our local pages have more on each area: windshield replacement in Mesa, Apache Junction and Casa Grande. We need a level spot with room to open the windshield area and, for a Class A, enough clearance to lift the glass into place. Let the park office know a service vehicle is coming so there is no trouble at the gate.
When should I book before heading home in the spring?
Book the inspection in February or early March, not the week you leave. Two reasons. Ordered RV glass takes time to arrive, and the urethane adhesive that holds the windshield in needs its full cure before the coach is driven at highway speed with the weight of a long trip on the body. Our technician gives you the safe drive-away time for the specific adhesive used on the day, based on the temperature and humidity at your site. If you are leaving right after the job, plan a day of local driving first.
Frequently asked questions
Do you replace windshields on fifth-wheels and travel trailers?
Fifth-wheels and travel trailers do not have windshields, but they do have side and door glass, and we replace that too. Tell us the window size and whether it is tempered, laminated or an acrylic double-pane unit when you call.
Can you replace a motorhome windshield at an RV resort?
Yes. We bring everything to your site, including the glass, the adhesive and the tools to lift large panels. Check with the park office first; most resorts in Mesa, Apache Junction and Casa Grande allow service vehicles with notice.
How long does an RV windshield replacement take?
Plan for most of a day for a Class A one-piece windshield, including the adhesive’s safe drive-away time. Chassis-based Class B and Class C windshields are closer to a standard vehicle replacement. We give you a time estimate with the quote.
Will my out-of-state insurance work in Arizona?
Usually yes. Your policy covers you anywhere in the United States, and we bill most US insurers directly. Your deductible follows your home state’s rules, which is why Florida, Minnesota and South Carolina policyholders often pay nothing for a windshield.
Does an RV need ADAS calibration after a windshield replacement?
If the coach has a camera behind the windshield for lane-keeping or forward-collision warning, yes. Older coaches without those systems do not. We check this before quoting so there are no surprises.
Can I drive my motorhome with a cracked windshield to the appointment?
Arizona law requires every passenger vehicle and motor truck to carry an adequate windshield (A.R.S. § 28-957.01, azleg.gov, October 2026). A crack that reaches the edge or crosses the driver’s view should not be driven at highway speed. Call us instead; we come to you.
